App developer in New Zealand
We design, build and publish apps for Android on Google Play, Windows on the Microsoft Store and iOS. Aotearoa Labs has taken its own apps through both stores, so we know the whole path from first screen to live listing.
Apps we have already shipped
Rather than ask you to take our word for it, here is what is live today.
- AOTEAURORA is a New Zealand aurora forecast app we designed and built for AOTEAURORA Limited. It is on Google Play, in five languages, with no account, advertising or analytics.
- AddVenture is a mental-maths app for Years 4–6 on both Google Play and the Microsoft Store. Its sequels for Years 7–8, Years 9–10 and Years 11–13 are on the Microsoft Store.
- Aurora Game Booster and Gandalf Modbus Wizard are Windows utilities on the Microsoft Store.
Android, Windows and iOS
Android apps are published through Google Play and Windows apps through the Microsoft Store. Both suit a focused product that does one job well, and we can build the same app for each so the experience matches.
We also build for iOS. We do not yet have an App Store release of our own live, so for an iOS project we will be upfront about timelines and Apple’s review requirements.
Publishing and store listing help
Writing the app is only half the job. Getting it approved and found is the other half, and it is where many first releases stall. We can handle or support:
- Store listing copy, screenshots and icons that describe the app honestly
- Your privacy policy and the data-safety or age-rating declarations each store asks for
- Pricing in New Zealand dollars and regional availability
- Test builds, store review and certification, and fixes if an update is rejected
- Updates, support pages and a plan for after launch
Built to respect the people using it
Our own apps run offline where they can, keep progress on the device and ask for as little as possible. AddVenture, for example, has no ads, accounts or timers. If you are building for children, health or money, we will raise the privacy questions early rather than after launch.

Common questions.
Can you publish an app I have already built?
Often, yes. We can help with store listings, privacy and age-rating declarations, test builds and the review process. We would look at the project first to see what state it is in.
Do you build iOS apps?
Yes, iOS is a platform we build for. We do not yet have an App Store app of our own live, so we will be upfront about timing and Apple’s review process before you commit.
Can an app support more than one language?
Yes. AOTEAURORA is available in English, Hebrew, Spanish, German and Chinese, and the AddVenture sequels support five languages.
How much does an app cost to build?
It depends on the scope, the platforms and how much back-end the app needs, so we quote after a short conversation rather than from a price list. Email admin@aotearoalabs.co.nz with what you have in mind.
